Ta Tas Tuesday...errr Well Wednesday
It is time to talk boobs (again)!
October is breast cancer awareness month (along with a smorgasbord of other awareness weeks 'national day of...') For me, this month is all about the Ta Tas. Each Tuesday this month I will be blogging on a post relating to breast cancer to help bring awareness and give voice to a monster that steals joy all over the world.
Tuesday's seem to run right past me and I end up getting these blog posts up really late or the next morning. Since we are speaking about running, let's talk about cancer research organizations. Probably one of the most well-known cancer research foundations is the Susan G. Komen Race For The Cure or simply the Susan G. Komen Foundation. A quick blurb about who and what Susan G. Komen is:
Race for the Cure is one of the most notable ways to donate to cancer research, community health, global outreach, and getting political policies changed. The races and fitness walks are put together organized by local organizations and affiliates. The span across our nation and are becoming a global initiative. It is rare that an organization is able to hit areas of funding like the Susan G. Komen Foundation is able to. To get more information or to sign up for a race visit Susan G. Komen now!
All cancer research is very important and the American Cancer Society is one organization that spreads its funds across all research into all cancers. The ACS locates itself across the nation, especially in cities and where cancer research and treatment hospitals are. In Lexington, KY. the ACS has a site called the Hope Lodge where cancer patients who are traveling to and from Lexington from surrounding towns and even states, can stay for free in a room, they are provided shuttle services to and from the hospital, and different local organizations come in every day at dinner time to feed and play games with the patients and their caretakers. This is free for all individuals coming into the Hope Lodge. This remains free because of donations to the ACS. Even if you are not able to give a monetary donation, get together in a group and give your time and services to your local American Cancer Society services. You can give to the ACS here and find a location and services near you here.
Cancer Research and Support is our way of combating a disease that is a thief. It is our way to capture and put behind bars a criminal that steals life. Growing up with a terminally ill parent because of cancer, I wondered then, what can I do to help? When my mom died I remember taking my piggy bank down to my dad and giving what I had in memory of Sandy Jean Swanson to the American Cancer Society. Every bit counts, every bit matters in stopping and providing healing to the thousands of individuals who are fighting every year.
Blessings & Find the Joy!

In 1980, Nancy G. Brinker promised her dying sister, Susan, that she would do everything in her power to end breast cancer forever. In 1982, that promise became the Susan G. Komen®organization and the beginning of a global movement. What was started with $200 and a shoebox full of potential donor names has now grown into the world’s largest nonprofit source of funding for the fight against breast cancer. To date, we’ve invested more than $2.9 billion in groundbreaking research, community health outreach, advocacy and programs in more than 60 countries. Our efforts helped reduce deaths from breast cancer by 38 percent between 1989-2014 and we won’t stop until our promise is fulfilled.
